The "Order of the Military Knights" was founded in 1118. This order of knights templar had as a goal to protect the pilgrims on their way to the Holy land. Rapidly the Order spread throughout Europe and to Carentoir where was founded the largest garrison in the "Morbihan" county, and became one of the 4 principal territories in the Brittany area.

Today remains the St Baptiste church in the small hamlet named "Le Temple". Inside stands a wooden figure of a mounted knight wearing a coat of arms (possibly representing a knights templar). The church also possesses many statues and paintings dating from the 16th and 17th centuries.
