"Ker en Touer" in Breton signifies the roofer's house. According to the legend, the only person to offer hospitality to St Marcoul the monk, was a humble roofer. He predicted that his house would be the center of an important village.
Carentoir is today a very lively village.

Carentoir is above all known for having been the most important templar territory of the middle ages, this is certified by numereous traces such as the "St Jean-Baptiste" church in the village of "Le Temple" (visit possible) and the many crosses found in the area.
